What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

A Different Approach to Healthcare
Naturopathic medicine starts from a different philosophy—and that leads to a different kind of care. Medically trained at an accredited four year medical school, we sit for board exams and fulfill clinical rotations in primary care. However, the way we approach medicine is to treat the person, not the disease.
Rather than suffocating the symptom or waiting for disease to fully develop, naturopathic medicine asks deeper questions:
Why is this symptom happening?
What does the body need?
How can we support it's innate, powerful process to heal?
It’s a form of medicine that values early detection, connection between systems, and the body’s innate ability to heal. And that philosophy informs everything about how I work with patients.
Trained in the Science of Optimal Health
As a state licensed primary care doctor, I’ve been medically trained in the same core sciences, diagnostic tools, and pharmaceutical protocols as conventional doctors. I can order labs, prescribe medication, and diagnose disease.
But my training also included a broader toolkit—one that looks at the person as an interconnected whole. I often use different reference ranges when reviewing lab results, focusing on optimal rather than just “normal.” And in addition to bloodwork, I may recommend more specialized testing like stool, urine, or saliva panels for a more in-depth look at your health.
Root Cause over Band-Aid Solutions
As a naturopathic doctor, I focus on internal medicine, which is primary care for adults 18-65 yrs old. Whether you're suffering from hormone imbalance, complex chronic disease, anxiety or depression, my goal is to find the root cause and support your body in restoring balance.
This approach is holistic and individualized. It recognizes that every system in the body is connected, and that no two people express imbalance the same way. I want to know how your body is speaking—and how we can work with it rather than against it.
Prevention is Powerful
Naturopathic medicine also emphasizes prevention. Chronic disease doesn’t happen overnight—it develops slowly, often beneath the surface. If we catch those early signs—shifts in lab values, patterns in your history, or subtle changes in how you feel—we can intervene before things escalate.
For example, if you come in with gut concerns, and I notice markers that suggest you're trending toward metabolic disease or thyroid dysfunction, we’ll address it early. This is one of the most empowering parts of this kind of care.
Individualized Care, Rooted in Partnership
No two people have the same body, history, or goals—so no two treatment plans should look the same. My approach is always personalized, and it’s based on partnership. We’ll work together to create a plan that supports your priorities.
The tools I use are safe, natural, and evidence-based. Depending on what’s needed, treatment may include lifestyle medicine, culinary medicine, hydrotherapy, botanical medicine, physician-grade supplements, peptides, and most significantly—homeopathy, which plays a central role in my work. Not every patient receives all of these, but I draw from this broad toolkit to meet you where you are.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
The first appointment is a 2-hour session, where I take a detailed health history, review your concerns, and begin ordering labs to get a clear picture of your current state. Toward the end of that visit, we’ll walk through your initial treatment plan so you can get started right away.
We’ll follow up in 2-4 weeks to check in, review any lab results, and adjust your care as needed. After that, follow-ups are scheduled based on how you're progressing and what you need.
If you’re looking for a more integrative, proactive, and personalized approach to your health, naturopathic medicine may be a good fit for you. If you have questions or would like to get started, I’d be honored to support you in your healing process.
